The Rivalry

Before interleague play in 1997, the Cubs and Sox met only in exhibition games — filled mostly with minor leaguers, since neither team wanted their starters hurt in a meaningless game. Then in 1997, it finally counted. North Side vs. South Side. Blue collar vs. ivy. The Red Line connecting Wrigley to old Comiskey — and a blood feud connecting generations of Chicago families who can’t agree on anything except that the other team’s fans are wrong.

Sox fans still have the 2005 ring. Cubs fans have 2016. And every summer, they settle it again. Game info and history by BaseballHistorian.com.
