| May Series — Wrigley Field | |||
| May 3 | Wrigley Field | Sox 3–1 | White Sox It was miserable at Wrigley—45 degrees, steady rain and 23-mph winds— and Tim Anderson homered. Tony La Russa improved to 6–1 against the Cubs since returning to manage the Sox and 4–0 at Wrigley. |
| May 4 | Wrigley Field | Sox 4–3 | White Sox Lucas Giolito struck out 10, AJ Pollock drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth, and Luis Robert made a game-saving catch. The Sox had trailed 3–1 after the second. |
| May Series — Guaranteed Rate Field | |||
| May 28 | Guaranteed Rate Field | Cubs 5–1 | Cubs Cubs pickup the opener on the South-side. Keegan Thompson went 5 innings, 1 run, 4 K and improved to 5–0; Patrick Wisdom drove in two. Thompson would end up the year 10-5 with a 3.76 ERA. |
| May 29 | Guaranteed Rate Field | Sox 5–4 (12) | White Sox Sox win in 12 innings to take the series 3-1. The Cubs led 1–0 entering the bottom of the ninth. The Sox tied it on a wild pitch, both teams scored twice in the 10th, both scored once in the 11th, and Jake Burger walked it off in the 12th. I have heard of a walking-taco but not a walking-Burger. Or, technically, a walking-off-Burger. |
2022 Series Notes
Four games in 2022 due to MLB scheduling. The Sox took the series 3-1 and reclaimed the Crosstown Classic series lead. The Cubs were rebuilding, the Sox still had championship ambitions, though the season ultimately disappointed on the South Side.
The Sox swept the two-game Wrigley series in early May, then the Cubs take the South-side opener in late May before the Sox closed it out. Sox won three of four. Total runs: 13–13. Baseball is weird. South Side bragging rights for 2022.
