Ron Santo: Unlike many of baseball's long ball artists, Ron Santo was not a one-dimensional performer. He was a home run hitter who also contributed with his glove. During his 14 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, most of them as a third baseman of All-Star caliber, Ron led the league at his position seven times in putouts and assists. Santo, who played his final season with the Chicago White Sox in 1974, was nearly finished as an active player before he revealed that he was a diabetic.
