Cubs and Sox announce the awarding of the BP Crosstown Cup starting in 2010. The Cup will be awarded to the team that
wins the majority of the games (normally 6 but with rain-outs, etc.), and in the case of a tie, the cup will go to the team that
wins the last game. The cup is currently in production and should be ready for the begining of the Crosstown Classic series
which starts in on June 11, at Wrigley Field.

The White Sox eleven game winning streak is halted by the Cubs in the last game of interleague play.
Cubs best the sox 8-6. Konerko does his thing again by homering in the 6th and the Sox attempt a rally
in the 9th with a double by Beckham left, Kotsay scoring, Pierzynski to third. Pierre singles to right, Pierzynski scores, Beckham scores, but Marmol works out of it and the Sox end up 2 runs short and lose 8-6.

Tyler Colvin breaks out in the leadoff spot and hits a 3 run dinger and goes 3 for 5 with 4 Rbi's.
The Cub bats come alive as every starter gets a hit except for Jeff Baker starting at 2nd base, giving Theriot
a rest. Dempster gives up 2 in the first but beats John Danks who up until now had the Cubs number.

Past Pitching Matchups:

6/11/2010: Jake Peavy (4-5, 5.90 ERA) vs. Randy Wells (3-4, 4.86)

All AJ all Day...AJ Pierzynski  starts the day 4-4 (HR & double and 3 RBI's), Konerko knocks in 2 RBI's, Quentin puts one on the board, Rios follows for the 2nd homer off of James Russel.  Not to be outdone Alex Rios matches AJ with 4 hits. Soriano hits his 10th HR of the year off Peavy. Randy Wells gives up 5 ER and 10 hits in 5 IP. Jake Peavy regains his old form with 7 IP, 6 H, and 5 strikeouts. Cubs try and make a game of it by taking two hits by Theriot and Lee, then an error by Nix at 3rd base and a RBI single by Baker in the 8th, to cut the lead from 10-2 to 10-5, but come up short. White Sox win 10-5.

6/12/2010: Mark Buehrle, LHP (3-6, 5.40) vs. Carlos Silva, RHP (8-0, 2.93)

Cubs go 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position and waste another good effort from Carlos Silva. Paul Konerko goes 3 for 4 with 2 ribbies and Buehrle gets out of jams with two on and no outs in the 1st and 4th and pitches 6 2/3 scoreless while striking out 7, the bullpen comes in and does the job. Bobby Jenks is a bit shaky in the 9th and gives up a run but strikes out Chad Tracy swinging to end the game. White Sox win their fifth straight against the Cubs going back to last year.

6/13/2010: Gavin Floyd, RHP (2-6, 6.18) vs. Ted Lilly, LHP (1-5, 3.28)

Calling this game a pitcher's duel doesn't give it justice. Both Gavin Floyd and Ted Lilly throw 6 no hit innings and Floyd gives up his first hit in the bottom of the 7th to Alfonso Soriano (double to left) and then Chad Tracy drives a single up the middle to bring Soriano home. Lilly continues to pitch a no hitter going into the top of the 9th...which leads to a nail-biting ending...read more below

Lilly continues to pitch a no hitter going into the top of the 9th, but Juan Pierre pinch hits for Gavin Floyd and singles up the center to break up the no-no. Anarchy then errupts thereafter, when Carlos Marmol comes in. He walks Andruw Jones, balks both runners up, intential walk to Rios and the hot hitting Paul Konerko comes up. Marmol gets out of it though with a force-out at home on a slow roller to Derrek Lee, and a pop fly to Marlon Byrd to end the game by Carlos Quentin.

Carlos Zambrano ends the first inning by going into the dugout and screaming and yelling at everyone and anyone and gets into a feud with Derrek Lee. Zambrano has to be restrained by Geovany Soto (C) and Manager who states that's he's run out of ideas to help his team win. Piniella sends Zambrano to the showers and home and later General Manager Jim Hendry suspends Zambrano indefinitely. Last season, Biz Z was banned for 6 games by Major League Baseball after an outburst during a game against the Pirates.  in 2007, Biz Z got into a fight with former teammate Michael Barrett. Both players were fined.  Barret was later traded. Big Z has also had some run ins with the Gatorade cooler, but it should be noted that the cooler may have provoked him.

Carlos Quentin knocks a 3 run dinger in the first. Juan Pierre starts off the game with a double which bounces over the first base bag and may be the impetus for Big Z's frustration with Derrek Lee. Lee also must have somehow thrown the slider improperly that Carlos Quentin knocked into left field. Gordon Beckham decides to wake up from his nightmare of a season and knock out his 2nd HR.  Tom Gorza...Gorzeee...Tom G. pitches adequately in replacing Big Z and goes 3 1/3 to help pace the Cubs in their loss. Peavy is outstanding for the Sox as they win their 10th in a row. Peavy goes 7, striking out 9, and giving up 3 hits. Bobby Howry pitches an inning of scoreless runs which is amazing for the season he's had. Hey he's pitched for both the Cubs and Sox. How 'bout that?

A close back and forth game is setttled in the bottom of the eighth when Paul Konerko takes the fireballer Andrew Cashner deep to left with Konerko's 19th HR of the season.  Aramis Ramirez comes off the disabled list the day before and hits his 6th HR of the season. Freddy Garcia pitches 7 innings and gives up 2ER.   The new Carlos (Silva) pitches well but only goes 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 walk and striking out four.

2010 Spring Training Games: Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs and White Sox will meet five times during the 2010 Spring Training Season in the Cactus League games in Arizona. White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and the Arizona Diamondbacks are upset about a plan by lawmakers to add a ticket charge to help pay for a new 15,000 stadium and complex for the cubs. Being the biggest attendance draw in the Cactus League, the Cubs are the using the leverage of possibly moving to Florida's Grapefruit League in trying to get their way.

Spring Game Dates:

  • 3/6/2010 Sox at Cubs (HoHoKam Park) : White Sox 15 - Cubs 3

Carlos Guillen knocks in two dingers as the Cubs are shellacked. Quotes abound from many including the Sox skipper.
Yes, it's true, every once in a blue moon one can get a quote from Cap'n Guillen.

    From MLB.com...

Guillen went as far as to say he would not root against the Cubs breaking their century-long drought and winning a title.

"I'm not going to say I hope they never get to the World Series because that's not the way I think. I will say what I think. I think it would be great," Guillen said. "The manager is a good friend of mine. The general manager [Jim Hendry], I have a lot of respect for him. I don't come out of the clubhouse to say hi to very many people.

"And I did. The only reason I don't want to is because of the fans. Besides that, why not? I got a lot of guys that are my friends. Am I going to root for them? No. But I really don't mind for them to win the World Series."

Playoff baseball stands many miles away at this point. The Cubs-White Sox games are as close to postseason atmosphere as either team can get in the regular season and stand as filled-to-capacity highlights of the Cactus League ledger.

  • 3/7/2010 Cubs at Sox (Glendale Stadium-Camelback Ranch) Cancelled due to rain.

  • 3/12/2010 Sox at Cubs (HoHoKam Park) Cubs 7 - White Sox 6
A sellout crowd of 10,448 watched future star Josh Vitters hit a 7th inning triple to put the Cubs/Sox rivalry (even during spring training at 1-1) into a tie for the pre-season tally. This was a split-squad game with the Cubs losing to Milwaukee 12 -3 and the White Sox beating the Angels 10 -7. Gorzelanny pitches 3 innings and doesn't give up a hit, but does walk 3.

  • 3/13/2010 Cubs at Sox (Glendale Stadium-Camelback Ranch) Cubs 8 - White Sox 7

  • 3/19/2010 Cubs at Sox (Glendale Stadium-Camelback Ranch) Cubs 8 - White Sox 4

The Cubs pound out 4 home runs by Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Marlon Byrd and Xavier Nady on their way to taking 3 out of 4 in the pre-season series. For the Chi-Sox, Gordon Beckham knocks in one with a double and AJ Pierzynski gets 3 hits on the day. Randy Wells gives up 2 ER in 4 2/3 for the Cubs and John Danks gets hit for 5 ER in 5 innings.
