When electricity is in the air, there are bound to be arcs and electric shocks.  This first meeting of the 2012 Crosstown Classic certainly showed that, with a beaning, a manager ejected, a non-move by a "replacement manager", and a last pitch by a beloved Chicago favorite with a surprise retirement announcement.

After Paul Konerko homered off of Jeff Samardzija in the first, Samardzija plunks Konerko in the face the next time up. Konerko left the game and his status unkown for the rest of the series. Samardzija claims that he wasn't trying to hit Paulie and the ball just got away from him. The count was 2-2 at the time.

Konerko Video on getting hit:

After the Cubs score in the bottom of the first, both teams are scoreless until the bottom of the 8th when Ian Stewart singled, and Darwin Barney doubled leaving men on 2nd and 3rd. One out later, Samardzija comes to the plate and fill in manager Jamie Quirk, who replaced Sveum for arguing a call earlier in the game, leaves Samardzija in to bat. Surprisingly, Samardzija swings at the first pitch and ties the game at 2 all with his single bringing Stewart home.

The White Sox respond quickly by getting the go-ahead and what turned out to be the game winning HR, by Gordon Beckham, a solo shot in the 8th. Kerry Wood comes in to face one batter and did what he's always done, having the nickname of Kid-K, he struck out Dayan Viciedo and then walked off the field for the last time, hearing the cheers of the crowd, his teammates and some of the White Sox as well, and ends up getting an impromptu hug from his son who ran out on the field.
