With the game tied at 5 in the 7th, Carlos Quentin continues his clutch and hot hitting and his quest for the MVP by hitting the game winner and his 18th of the year off struggling Carlos Marmol. Sox head in the final game with a possible sweep of the Cubs at home. Both starters of Gallagher and Vasquez get hit hard and only go 6 and 4 1/3 respectively. Taters by Dye "oh my" his 18th, Alexi "New Daddy" Ramirez hits his 5th, and Carlos Quentin tags his 18th.  Derrek Lee goes 5 for 5 with 3 RBI.

The Sox take advantage of Eric Patterson's impressions of past Cub players like Dwight Smith and Dave Kingman when Orlando Cabrera tags up and takes second on a fly out to left (later scored on Quintin's single in the first), then in the 3rd Patterson misplays a line drive single and his throw to the plate is off the mark. Ryan Dempster's control falters and fan favorite Swisher tags a grand salami off Dempster. "You can put a whole bunch up on the booooo-aaaaard", well 7 actually, in the 3rd.  Soto and Fontenot hit back-to-back jacks in the 5th, but the Cubs cannot come back against the South siders and the Sox take the first game at "The Cell."

2008 Chicago 2008 is the first time that both the Cubs and the White Sox were in 1st place when they met in the Crosstown Classic.  In the hype up to the game, John Danks, the White Sox starting pitcher said, "We'll all be bringing our nose plugs, try not to smell all the urine over there. Nah, we're looking to have fun over there, but that place is a {bleep} hole."
